REVIEW: 2016 BET Awards

The 2016 BET Awards took place last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the show had some great performances, some crazy and awkward moments, and incredible tributes to the late, great Prince! It wasn't my absolute favorite BET Awards, but it was definitely cool to watch!

Check out the review below!

Full List of Winners from the 2016 BET Awards!

The 2016 BET Awards took place just last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles! The annual award show was packed with explosive performances, amazing tributes to Prince and crazy moments from the show's co-hosts, Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross (all of which we're recapping in a bit!). Of course, in the winner's circle, Beyoncé definitely came out on top, and Bryson Tiller didn't too shabby himself!

Check out the full list of winners below (winners in bold)!

REVIEW: BET Awards 2015

Last night was the 2015 BET Awards, and it was definitely a great show! This year marked the 15th anniversary of the awards as well. During the pre-show, hosted by Terrence J and La La Anthony, we got to see some retro moments from the shows over the years which was cool to see. We also saw stars hit the red carpet and the style suite, as well as performances from MGK, Natalie Rose, Jeremih, and others. I really only watch the pre-show to check out the interviewers' skills, to be honest, but it was a decent prelude to the actual show.

Check out the rest of my review below!

Full List of Winners at the BET Awards 2015

Last night's BET Awards 2015 was definitely a great show packed with great performances and moments (review coming soon), but less actual announcements of the awards themselves! Close to 2/3 of this list wasn't announced last night at all that I could see. However, we have found out who exactly took home which awards, and have a full list of winners for you below!

REVIEW: BET Awards 2014

Time for my annual BET Awards review! I actually worked half the night to get it ready for the morning, but have a lot more to do before I leave for CANADA in a few days!

Of course, the night kicked off with the Pre-Show, which everyone always has playing in the background as they finish up some last minute things before the actual show starts. However, I actually watched mostly due to Adrienne Bailon who co-shosted with Shad Moss (formerly known as Bow Wow), Keshia Chante, and Lloyd Boston. As a blogger trying to get to the next level, I always like to watch people interview others, and their dynamics back and forth, and I thought Adrienne did a great job. Which is why I'll be watching The Real this fall!

REVIEW: BET Awards 2013

Last night was the biggest night of the year for BET—the star-studded BET Awards 2013! Of course, I’ve been reviewing this show since I started The Spotlight, so, for the fifth time, here we go!

The pre-show, hosted by Angela Simmons and Bow Wow (they really did fire those other 106 & Park hosts, huh?), was simply the pre-show. Nothing bad. Nothing great either. You watch to see if your favorite artists will be interviewed or if you’ll see them on the red carpet. We saw stars like Mindless Behavior, J. Cole, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson, and power couples like Robin Thicke and Paula Patton, as well Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. Tamar Braxton even took the first award for the night--the Centric Award for "Love and War!" And her post-baby body looks great! Congrats to her! The performances were nothing spectacular to me, mostly because I don’t listen to or know anybody who performed really. After a while, it all starts to sound the same, so I just waited for the show to begin.

Check out more about the BET Awards below!

REVIEW: BET Awards 2012

Every year since I started Spotlight, I have been recapping the BET Awards, giving my two cents on BET's biggest event of the year. So, of course, I had to keep up the tradition!

Last year's 2011 BET Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart, was pretty good, at least to me. I have come not to expect jaw-dropping amazing shows from BET, but they do good. This show was good too. Not amazing, but good. From the different performances to special appearances to the Whitney tribute, the show was good to watch. I have my negatives, of course, but the good ultimately outweighed the bad. Check out my review of the BET Awards 2012 below!

Real Husbands of Hollywood!

Haha here is the 3-part skit from the BET Awards that had everybody rolling, "Real Husbands of Hollywood," featuring Kevin Hart, Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Bobby Brown, and Nick Cannon. The skit was a parody of top reality shows, "Basketball Wives" and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," and the like. Even had a feature from Basketball Wife Tami Roman. Hands down, one of my favorite moments of the show last night. Definitely would LOVE if it could be a real show! Hey, Skank Robbers from BET Awards 2009 is going to be a movie. May as well! It was too funny! Check ll three videos after the jump! (Courtesy of Necole Bitchie)

REVIEW: BET Awards 2011

*SPOILER ALERT* This review covers all of the 2011 BET Awards!

Morning everyone! So last night was the 2011 BET Awards, the occasion of the year for the network. So of course, I had to do a review. I've been doing them since I started the blog in 2009, now that I think about it. Even though that was only two short years ago, it's become tradition for me to do these reviews. I'll probably throw in some of my favorite moments of the award show a bit later, along with fashion wins and SEVERAL EPIC LOSSES of the night haha!

Now the review is long, longer than usual I think (SO much to say!), so I've put things in bold, trying help out with navigation a bit if you want to skip around.

My Favorite Moments from 2010 BET Awards

Ok, keeping my BET Awards theme today going...here are some of my favorite moments from last night's show! Watch the videos after the jump.

REVIEW: BET Awards 2010 Review

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

I had to do it. I had to write a review for the BET Awards 2010 for a number of reasons. One, it was the 10th year anniversary of the show. Two, the show was so much of a mess last year, I had give my opinion on whether this year's was better or not (cuz there's always the chance of it getting worse, sad to say). Three, the show had some great (and somewhat iffy) nominations that I had to give my two cents on. So this post goes into detail about performances, awards won, outfits, and everything. I literally had my laptop open the whole time typing on all of this (and tweeting lol Twitter was crazy last night yall). It's a real long post, but worth the read...

BET Awards 2010 Winners

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Monday yall! I'm actually energetic today. This morning's posts are dedicated to the BET Awards 2010! I liked it a lot. The show was the best I've seen it be in a long time, probably since Miss Mo'Nique. Others may disagree on that opinion, but I'm sure we all can agree that it was better than last year's mess! So congrats BET for getting on people's good sides again :)

I had to post the full list of winners from last night's awards, because they only announced what six? Leaving me disappointed because some of the main categories I wanted to hear, I had to look up online smh. But here goes the full list. (I talk about some of them more in my review)

Beef Still

Photobucket

Well, there's no telling when Chris Brown is going to get another shot in the spotlight. Mr. Shawn Carter (aka Jay-Z) will probably keep taking away the opportunity.

Chris was scheduled to perform at the BET Awards Sunday night, but according to my most trusted site MediaTakeOut, Jay put a stop to that. When Jay heard that Chris was going to perform, he told BET that if Chris did step foot on that stage, neither Jay or BEYONCÉ would perform. Obviously, still upset about the Rihanna situation, huh Jay? I don't blame him for still being upset, cuz you know that Rihanna and he are really close (closer than they should be according to some reports LOL but we will leave that alone). But threatening BET and taking away Chris' shot to redeem himself is mad shady. That was seriously foul. Especially since Chris was going to tribute to Michael Jackson, and probably would've done 100 times better than some of those fools that took stage Sunday night (obviously I'm still a tad bit heated lol).

And then I'm mad at Beyoncé a little too, cuz she had to have known about it, and she just let Jay do that, KNOWING GOOD AND WELL THAT BET WOULD GO ALONG WITH IT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO KEEP BEYONCÉ ON THE PROGRAM. If it was just Jay-Z, they probably would've blew him off. Honestly, I would've rather seen Chris than Jay, and with that less than electrifying performance B gave Sunday, she could've gotten kicked off too, in my mind, for Chris. Just my opinion.

It just has me thinking. Is Chris ever going to get the chance to reboot his career? I mean, I know he messed up, but he has acknowledged his mistake and he's paying for it. Maybe not in the way a lot of people may have wanted, but he still got punished. He is too good of a performer to let all of that talent go to waste. Even Michael Jackson realized his potential. Come on people. Jay-Z, that's especially for you.

PEACE.

REVIEW: BET Awards 2009

Photobucket
*******SPOILER ALERT!!!!*******
If you have not watched the 2009 BET Awards yet, and wish to watch it later on in the weeks to come, and don't want to know what happened just yet, DO NOT READ THIS BLOG!!!!!!!

Well, I said I would write about it and I most definitely am. This post may just be a little longer than the others, but I just have so much to say. Last night was the 2009 BET Awards. It was hosted by Jamie Foxx, and, of course, featured several superstars such as my girl Beyoncé (I'm gonna get to her a little bit later in this post), Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, etc. etc. Of course, upon hearing about the unexpected passing of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, on Thursday, BET decided to change the show around to pay tribute to this great legend who has left behind such a beautiful legacy.

Well, in all honesty, I kind of wished they didn't. When I first heard that they would be changing the show around, I didn't think that it would be the best. They only had a couple of days to work with, so I knew that it just would not be the best tribute ever. BUT LAST NIGHT WAS JUST A HOT MESS!!!!
