According to ABC, Lady Gaga was a guest Sunday at a fundraiser hosted by President Barack Obama. The fundraiser was held at the home of Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and David Goldberg in Atherton, Calif.

Gaga asked a question during the Q&A session of the event. She thanked the president for his accomplishments , then read from a letter from a fan about the suicide of another fan, Jamey Rodemeyer, who had been subjected to bullying because he was gay.

She thanked Obama for hosting his anti-bullying conference with First Lady Michelle Obama, and then begged everyone in the room, including the president, to do what they can to prevent bullying. Obama thanked her, and spoke about his administration’s anti-bullying campaign.

I commend Gaga for bringing up the issue. Bullying is a serious problem in this country, and too many young people are committing suicide because of the hurtful words and actions of others. It's very sad to hear and read about. It's not like I have a straight out plan to prevent bullying from happening, but  I do know that something has to be done. There needs to be more monitoring on this in schools, harsher consequences. I always say that there is power in the tongue, and one sentence can change someone's life, positively or negatively. Something needs to be done.
