It’s official! The heavily awaited series Girl Meets World, reboot of the classic '90s series Boy Meets World, has officially been picked up to series by Disney Channel! The network made the official announcement this morning.
"I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids," creator Michael Jacobs said in as statement. "Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular."
The show’s main plot centers centers on one of my favorite TV couples Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) as parents to a young girl named Riley (Rowan Blanchard). Cory is a history teacher at Riley's middle school, and Topanga owns a afterschool spot that specializes in pudding. The show will begin production this summer in Los Angeles, with a planned 2014 premiere date on Disney Channel.
Set in New York City, Girl Meets World will "tell the wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for, only this time from a tween girl's perspective," Disney Channel stated in a press release. Riley also has her very own Shawn (Rider Strong) in the form of her quick-witted best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Rider, however, will not be appearing in the series.
I’m definitely excited for this series! Boy Meets World was one of my favorite shows growing up, and I’m happy to see Ben and Danielle back as Cory and Topanga. Even though I’ve long since given up the Disney Channel, I’m definitely going to be checking out this series!
