I recently linked up with a fellow BGSU alum, Loren "Lo Skeet" Gross, to speak about his podcast "Inaudible Raucous", which has currently been going on strong for 43 weeks straight! The podcast involves Lo speaking on a variety of topics including pop culture, health, sports, social justice, financial advice, etc. As a student of the radio art form since he was 13, Lo said he got the idea to do a podcast about three years ago when he started to see a shift in the radio industry. After much procrastination, the podcaster started his up last year in 2016. The idea for the name came after speaking with some friends about oxymorons that catch people's attention. From there, he thought of a "clever way to spin cliche terms like “Sounds from the Underground” or “The Quiet Riot." Lo stated, "I went to a thesaurus and picked those two words: Inaudible and Raucous."
Being a busy person himself with a full time job and planning a wedding for Spring 2017, Lo says that balancing the podcast with everything else isn't actually all that hard. "I say that because I made a commitment to myself to pursue my passion and operate in my purpose, so work really just helps facilitate that," he said. "I basically LIVE the podcast."

One of the most creative things that really cemented me as a fan of the podcast happened around last year's NBA Finals. Lo and one of his rotating co-hosts, Boogie 1 Stacc, took an audio road trip starting with Cleveland and San Francisco then other places like Louisiana, Detroit, Chicago, D.C., and their home base of Houston. They talked with people based in those cities that Lo knew, while playing music from those cities. The Louisiana and Detroit episodes were his favorites from that tour. During the Louisiana episode, they were able to interview a cop from Baton Rouge in the midst of the Alton Sterling shooting and got a front line account of the situation. The Detroit episode allowed for him to showcase and represent his own hometown to the fullest. Lo also mentioned there are plans in the works to visit other cities like Tulsa, OK, Philadelphia, and Charlotte, NC in the future.
Other personal favorites of mine about the podcast are "Story Time with Lo" and "Momma Lo's Words of Wisdom." "Growing up, my grandparents and uncles would tell me stories, captivating stories to the point where a simple trip to the store could be the most epic adventure ever," Lo said of the segments. "Over the years, I have been known as a dope story teller, so it’s only natural that I keep the tradition going by bringing Story Time with Lo to the show." Lo started giving his mother's words of wisdom while he was at college at Bowling Green State University. "I would let my mom come on for the last 5-10 minutes and drop some pearls of wisdom on the listeners," the host revealed. "I wanted to keep it going because my mother’s wisdom has been a major key to me navigating through life and I want my listeners to be able to benefit from it as well."
When asked about why he thinks the podcast has been so successful, the podcaster believes that listeners appreciate the information and topics discussed. "We try to be a voice for them and we provide the platform for them to be heard. A lot of podcasts are funny and entertaining but lack substance," he stated. "We aim to provide a level of education while also entertaining at the same time."
Lo's inspired to keep the podcast going because of his faith in God and his family. He mentioned a specific conversation he had with his Uncle Gerald back in 2013, before his unclue passed about how our generation lacked a voice that was needed. He implored Lo to step up and be one of those voices. As 2017 goes along, Lo has plans to add more visual aspects to the show, grow his core audience, and increase exposure to the point where some major network will want to work them. As a fan of the podcast and friend, I'm looking forward to what 2017 has in store for "Inaudible Raucous" podcast!
Bonus Note: Days after completing this interview, Lo announced that his podcast has made a deal with local Houston station, SlaughtaHouze Radio, to broadcast the show every Wednesday morning!
