RECAP: "Getting Serious"-Being Mary Jane S4, E9

BET

We're getting towards the end of this season of Being Mary Jane, and things are getting crazier each episode!

Picking up from last week, Lee and Mary Jane are still reeling from the news that Zoe wants to use Lee's sperm to have another kid! Apparently, the two of them were talking about having another baby before Zoe cheated, and Lee admits that their kids always wanted another baby brother or sister. Lee knows that Zoe will have the baby with or without him, and kind of doesn't want to be left out from it. He asks Mary Jane to let him clear his head for a minute, like he's actually considering this craziness!!!! That, of course, gets MJ emotional. Mary Jane wants a baby herself, and is really considering having one with him, so it's completely understandable that she wouldn't want him having a new kid around with his baby mama!

MJ definitely stood her ground at work on this episode of Being Mary Jane...but she has another big battle in front of her when it comes to Lee!

Picking up from last week, Lee's baby mama Zoe comes to NYC, meeting him and Mary Jane for dinner. Zoe and Lee are really close...a little bit too close for Mary Jane's liking! Lee and Zoe make crazy jokes about sex and other things, and Zoe even gets on him about minding his sodium level with his high blood pressure, which MJ didn't even know about! Who's the girlfriend here?! MJ pulls Lee to the side, and asks why the two of them aren't together. Lee reveals that Zoe cheated on him. Once that trust was broken, he couldn't go back. In a way, he still has feelings for her, as the mother of his kids and best friend, but he's not interested in her romantically. It looks though like Zoe might still be harboring some deeper feelings!

Big development with MJ...she got to meet Lee's kids this week on Being Mary Jane

Picking up from last week's episode, Justin quizzes Mary Jane on her research for her interview with Judge McAllister. This is probably one of the biggest interviews of both of their careers, so they really have to knock it out of the park! Meanwhile, MJ buys a bunch of pool toys for Lee's kids, but Lee tells her that they're in middle school now. They'll probably be on their phones the whole time, anyway. It's nerve wrecking for Mary Jane to actually meet them. Obviously, she wants them to like her and is overcompensating a little bit with all of these toys!  Meanwhile, PJ goes out for a night with his boys at a lounge, and finds an old college schoolmate, Sunitha. He manages to snag a date with her, hoping to rekindle their flame!

RECAP: "Getting Home"-Being Mary Jane S4, E6

BET

I'm really loving this season of Being Mary Jane way more than the rest! Tonight's episode was a perfect example as to why...

Picking up from last week, Mary Jane is doing another small segment outside in New York's brutal winter. Right before she goes off air, she gets hit with a snowball, and goes off right after the cameras cut! The cold, her correspondent gig, and being away from home is clearly getting to her. Kara calms her down with the news that that they will be covering the Racial Justice Coalition event honoring the 50th anniversary of Thurgood Marshall's confirmation in the Supreme Court. It'll happen down in Atlanta, so both Mary Jane and Kara (who's made a power move with Garrett to go) are excited to head back home!

RECAP: "Getting Served"-Being Mary Jane S4, E5

BET

This episode of Being Mary Jane took us back down to the ATL to check in on Niecy and the rest of the Pattersons!

Picking up from last episode, Niecy goes out for a night on the town with her girls, blowing more of her settlement check on a VIP table with plenty of hookah and bottles. They get to talking about Dante, with Niecy foolishly thinking that Dante wants to be a family with her, Isabelle and Treyvion (who isn't even his son), but really he's using her for her money.

This season of Being Mary Jane is really looking to be one of growth for our girl MJ!

Picking up from last week, MJ pitches a story idea about a kid in New Jersey, Calhoun Jeffries who was wearing a kilt out and about. His dad sees him, and smacks him around for it, eventually dragging him away, which sparks a conversation online about fashion statements like this and acceptance in the black community. Does it really determine gender or sexual identity, or is it just fashion...and was the dad in the wrong or was he just trying to protect his kid?

RECAP: "Getting Real"- Being Mary Jane S4, E3

BET

Finally, we got a new episode of Being Mary Jane last night! It’s been a few weeks, and I know I’ve definitely been missing it.

Picking up from the last episode, Mary Jane goes to visit Paul, Jr at a condo in NYC valued at $15 MILLION! I guess PJ’s into luxury real estate now. Turns out that he's managing the place while one of his clients is out of the country. Mary Jane wants him to find her a nice spot like that…but at a much lower price obviously.

At Great Day USA, Mary Jane has to now with the aftermath of Ronda backstabbing her and bringing MJ’s old producer Justin (Michael Ealy) in the mix. MJ and Kara see Justin playing around with the higher ups at the network, a way to suck up to them no doubt. So now these two have to figure out how to get better stories. At that moment, as if he overheard them, Justin comes over to tell them that a segment Kara’s been working on all morning is being bumped for another interview. Oh, this is going to be a longggg arc with this guy at the network.

Last night's episode of
Being Mary Jane was a very eye-opening one for our girl Mary Jane!

Picking up from last week, MJ is still reeling from Ronda telling her that there's real chance of advancement for her at Good Day USA. When Lee comes to see her, MJ just wants to dive into sex to not think about it. Meanwhile, down in Atlanta, Niecy gets it on too with her baby daddy Dante. They mention getting their own place, but Dante doesn't even have a job, so how is he about to pitch in?! He mentions that Niecy has a settlement check coming in, but she wants to put that in a trust for her kids. Dante is definitely about to manipulate her out of that money...WATCH.

RECAP: "Getting Nekkid"-'Being Mary Jane' Season 4 Premiere

BET

Being Mary Jane is back for a new season, and Mary Jane is is a new city, with a new job, and a new attitude! And, of course, I'm recapping it all!

It's been a little over a year since the season 3 finale, and Mary Jane has moved on from SNC to a correspondent position at Great Day USA in New York City! Though she should really be focused on the new job, MJ goes to see a matchmaker, Felicia Beatty, to try to find love.  A few DAYS into being in the city, y'all. Even Felicia can read her well, and tells Mary Jane to do self-reflecting and wait a few months before trying to find a guy. But does MJ listen?

RECAP: "Some Things Are Black and White"-Being Mary Jane Season 3 Finale

Last night was the season 3 finale of Being Mary Jane, and I can't believe it's already over! Picking up from last week, Mary Jane wakes up in bed with Gorgeous Guy (apparently that's the white boy's official nickname, though we STILL do not know his actual name). They talk about potential dates when the doorball rings, and it's David's mother Simone at the door! Though MJ ignores her knocks at first, Simone is persistent and MJ eventually lets her in. Simone, of course, is here to try to convince Mary Jane to go back to David, which MJ is NOT here for! She asks if Simone forgive her son if she was in Mary Jane's shoes? Probably not. Mary Jane firmly tells Simone that it's over between MJ and David, and that Simone needs to let go. I was proud of MJ in that moment, because she could have very easily slipped back into her old ways, pining after this man. Glad to see she's moved on!

RECAP: "Purging and Cleansing," Being Mary Jane S3, E9

Can't believe this is the second to last episode of Being Mary Jane for the season! Picking up from last week, right after Patrick storms out, Paul tells Mary Jane that all of this is necessary, even if they did ambush him. I get why everyone is upset, though. Even though this is a lighter drug, it's still a drug, and for Patrick to relapse into his old ways would be terrible. MJ brings D'Asia to her house that night, and, of course, D'Asia asks about her dad. MJ tells her that Patrick had to work, and D'Asia is happy just spending time over at her aunt's house. D'Asia asks MJ upfront, however, if her dad is back on drugs, but MJ plays it off, saying again that he is just working late.

RECAP: "Wake Up Call"-Being Mary Jane S3, E8

Another great episode of Being Mary Jane! Picking up from last week, Mary Jane and her family have a cookout at her house. Patrick excitedly talks to Paul about his work, clearly hopped up on those pills he's been taking. At the table, Niecy mentions possibly getting a car and MJ tells her that she needs to think about saving her money instead. Paul agrees, stating that he will buy her a car. Irritated, Mary Jane tells them that they all need to do better with their finances as a family. She thinks they need to brainstorm ideas about financial security and communal accountability, and literally the entire family walks away from the table. She wasn't lying though! Don't get me wrong. Mary Jane can be judgmental and preachy, but, in my opinion, she has a right to be when it comes to her family. A lot of times, they all end up falling back on her because of the money she makes and it's not a bad idea for them all to really get their finances together, especially Niecy and Patrick.

RECAP: "If The Shoe Fits..."-Being Mary Jane S3, E7

Being Mary Jane was great last night! Picking up from last week, Mary Jane gets more bag options from the stylists, and gets a Birkin bag for herself for her 39th birthday. Meanwhile, Niecy tries to sell expensive flat irons at the mall, where a customer encourages her to do hair. Niecy could really be making some great money. I don't know why she doesn't, really. She talks with other employees in the mall, who help each other out with employee discounts to their different stores.

In addition to the Birkin bag, MJ also gets a new car. While driving home, she sees Mark's house for sale. She ss shocked and upset that he is really leaving for Nigeria, and also that he seemingly forgot her birthday. At that moment, Patrick calls and says that Helen had another fall and had to stay overnight in the hospital. She quickly comes over, of course. PJ comes in too, from LA, and is apparently doing well for himself at his new job, albeit illegal. MJ is suspicious that her brothers and family are planning something for her birthday, but I doubt it. Patrick asks her to come back to help Helen that night, which she takes to mean to come back for the surprise. However, with everything going on, I really think they forgot!

RECAP: "Don't Call It A Comeback"-Being Mary Jane S3, E6

How are you all liking Being Mary Jane this season? Picking up from last week, Mary Jane has a great
night at the club with Nichelle and other girlfriends, as they drink and talk about their sex lives! As the ladies all begin to leave to go home, Mary Jane sees the white boy she made out with in the last episode, and goes back in the club. They make out again, as Nichelle texts to see if MJ made it home safe. He wants to go home with her, or have her come home with him, but she wants to keep things at the club. We still don't even know his name, and neither does Mary Jane, but she's good with that.

RECAP: "Hot Seat"-Being Mary Jane S3, E5

Another great episode of Being Mary Jane last night! Picking up from last week, Mary Jane is
adamant about getting her spot back on the show. However, Greg refuses to pull Marisol from the chair. MJ then decides to make some moves of her own, and makes a donation and call to the Rainbow Coalition. A representative comes in to question Greg, wondering if race is the reason why Mary Jane hasn't been brought back on the show. Greg offers the Coalition time to speak on their organization to avoid this accusation going public, but the rep demands that MJ be put back on the air within 3-6 weeks or the Coalition will hit the press. Mary Jane doesn't feel like the rep pressed hard enough, but, for the coalition, there is a process to getting this to happen. Yet again, Mary Jane takes things into her own hands, and announces to the intrigued reporters outside that she'll be back on the air on Monday, forcing SNC's hand herself.

RECAP: "Being Kara"-Being Mary Jane S3, E4

Another great episode of Being Mary Jane last night! Picking up from last week, this episode mostly surrounds Kara, hence the title of the episode. We see Kara having some romantic time with Gael, going off to finish some work, and falling asleep. However, she oversleeps, and rushes to get ready for the day. We've seen before that she has a problem balancing her work and personal life. As she gets ready in the car, she pops a pill to, assumedly, calm herself down and get on with the day.

RECAP: "Sparrow"- Being Mary Jane S3, E3

Last night's episode of Being Mary Jane was HEAVY! Picking up from last week's season three premiere, the episode starts with Lisa having what seems, at first, like a typical night. She makes herself dinner, takes a shower, before putting on a nice nightgown. In a very calm and weirdly happy manner, though, she slowly takes a bunch of pills with wine, committing suicide! Afterwards, Mary Jane gets a call from David, but ignores him and deletes his number from her phone. He eventually shows up at her house, but she's already at work. Niecy calls MJ asking her to come over, as David tells the Pattersons what happened to Lisa. Niecy ends up telling Mary Jane over the phone, as Helen cries and Paul sits in shock.

That same night, Mary Jane looks through all of the calls she's been ignoring since her accident. She comes across all the ignored calls from Lisa too, including Friday, which I'm assuming, may have been the day (or close to it) that Lisa killed herself.

RECAP: Being Mary Jane Season 3 Premiere ("Facing Fears," E1 & "Louie, Louie," E2)

Being Mary Jane is back for a third season, and this is going to be a crazy one! Picking up from last season, last night's two-hour season premiere the Pattersons, Lisa, David, are at the hospital to see about Mary Jane, who was in a terrible accident. Kara is also there, fighting over the phone to protect MJ at SNC and also covering the mirror with paper towels in MJ's hospital room. Mary Jane's face is severely cut and bruised, but she is alive. Another woman named Cecilia (Loretta Devine) was the other driver involved in the accident, but looks to be okay. After Mary Jane gets a CAT scan, she goes off  after seeing David in the hallway, alarming her parents, who try to get an explanation from him. David attempts to tell them that he mistakenly called MJ while he was talking to Lisa about some things in their past. When David refuses to go into detail, Paul punches him!

RECAP: Being Mary Jane Season 2 Finale ("Reading The Signs," E11 & "Signing Off," E12)

This season of Being Mary Jane has definitely held my attention, and last night's two-hour season finale had my eyes glued to the TV! Picking up from last week, Mary Jane has an interview with Don Lemon at CNN about her rant with author Elizabeth Foy, where she called the woman "an ugly black woman." MJ claims that this "ugly black woman" title isn't dependent upon race, gender, or sexual orientation, It's about shedding light to those whose stories do not matter. She plans to continue to use her show to showcase these stories.

Afterwards, Mary Jane gets a call from PJ, who tells her that Mama Helen has been bragging about how MJ's all over the TV. There's even a new autotuned song that has gone viral (of course)! Literally, this interview is EVERYWHERE, and everyone has an opinion, good and bad. When she gets to the station, there are even supporters with signs there to welcome her and get her autograph! Mary Jane clearly loves the attention. Cynthia, who currently is in the primetime slot, is waiting in her office to talk. Turns out that Cynthia wasn't sick that day that MJ filled in for her. The executives at SNC told the woman to take a few days sick leave. Cynthia expresses that she feels that the network is using Mary Jane to push her out.  MJ doesn't agree that that's going to happen, but Cynthia doesn't feel like she's sincere or really concerned.
