MOVIE REVIEW: Selma

Last night, I had the opportunity to see Selma, which chronicled Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s leadership alongside other notable leaders and activists during the Civil Rights Movement, specifically during the march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery. Shown in limited release starting Christmas, the movie was officially released January 9th. From watching, it's clear why this film earned four Golden Globe nominations, which airs tonight by the way (and probably soon some Oscar noms as well)!

Directed by Ava DuVernay, the film was a superb look at this important piece of not only African-American history, but American history in general. Selma stars British actor David Oyelowo as Dr. King, who truly BECAME this man, from his voice to demeanor. That, to me, is always the mark of a true actor--to be able to become a character so much so that you never really notice the actor playing him or her. British actress Carmen Ejogo played Dr. King's wife, Coretta Scott King, and portrayed Coretta's grace and strength incredibly as well.

TRAILER: Nicki Minaj's My Time Again Documentary

Nicki Minaj is set to release a new documentary to give her Barbz and other viewers a real look at
her life again, and we have a trailer!

The documentary, My Time Again, set to air on MTV in a few weeks, gives us a behind the scenes look at who Nicki is and what she deals with in her superstardom. In the short clip, we see Nicki's performance at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (and the disastrous rehearsal where one of her dancers was bit by a snake), as well as her preparation for her most recent album, The Pinkprint.

The documentary will air January 18th at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Check out the trailer below!

I think I'm going to check this out. I'm always interested to see the person behind the artist, and I think that Nicki has a lot more to her than what's at the surface a lot of times.

SHORT FILM: Yours and Mine-Beyoncé

Beyoncé is celebrating the anniversary of her self-titled surprise album with a short film "Yours and Mine."

In the video, The singer reflects on her life and career as various clips from her life and videos play. She discusses her fame, admitting that sometimes she just wants to be normal. “I sometimes wish I could just be anonymous and walk down a street just like everyone else,” she says. “Now that I’m famous, it’s really, really difficult to do simple things…When you’re famous, no one looks at you as a human anymore. You become the property of the public. There’s nothing real about it.”

MOVIE REVIEW: Get On Up: The James Brown Story

"I love when a movie explains the WHY of someone."-Viola Davis on Get On Up

I just got back a few hours ago from seeing Get On Up, the story of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. I heard that this movie was in production a long while ago, and have been excited every since, watching interviews, sneak peeks and trailers as often as I could.
I saw it at 9:30 in the morning, because I really do hate opening weekend crowds, so I try to go when it'll be less crowded and less crazy. The movie theater was still pretty full, but quiet and still thank God, as we all watched and were mesmerized as Mr. Brown's life shined across the screen, thanks to Chadwick Boseman.

I LOVE Chad, and have for quite some time, even before 42 (the Jackie Robinson Story) came out. It hit me when I finally got the chance to see it that I had seen him before... in Lincoln Heights, which was big on ABC Family from 2007-2009. Even then, as he played a soldier suffering from PTSD who was also the son of the main character towards the end, I noticed his talent...and his good looks, of course (*smiles*)! But mostly his talent, I promise!

VH1 Releases Official TLC Crazy Sexy Cool Movie Teaser

VH1 has released a teaser of the TLC biopic, Crazy Sexy Cool, that the network plans to release this October! The movie stars Drew Sidora as Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, KeKe Palmer as Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, and Lil Mama as the late great Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Though the biopic and casting decisions were definitely questionable at first, this teaser shows that VH1 may have got right!

See A Tease of Beyoncé's Upcoming HBO Special!

Beyoncé recently revealed that fans will be able to catch an intimate look behind her life in an upcoming HBO documentary, and has dropped the teaser for the film!

The feature-length film, debuting Feb. 16, 2013, will show Beyoncé at her performances, in the studio, at home, and even gives an up-close shot of Beyoncé's baby bump when she was pregnant with daughter Blue Ivy! “HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” said she said of the film. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”
